Guy Sinden, January 2015

Guy Sinden (born 22 April 1966) is an intactivist who held a speech at the WWDOGA in 2015, being member of Droit au corps and Beschneidungsforum.de.

In 2020, he spoke in a video message for the WWDOGA:

My name is Guy Sinden, co-president of Droit au corps, and I would like to tell you how we approach the topic of genital mutilations.

Droit au corps advocates the abandonment of any practice of sexual modification without the free and informed consent of the subject, a fortiori in the absence of an urgent and serious medical reason. DAC gives priority to circumcision, which is the most common intervention, but remains absent from public debate.

In general, the usual reactions to suffering are indignation, sadness, which is often expressed in anger, and can generate a need for confrontation.

In order to escape these negative energies, we deliberately opted for a compassionate approach. Beyond the suffering of the victims, it is necessary to also take into account the suffering of individuals who could feel threatened in their traditions. Droit au Corps hopes that all the parties concerned by genital mutilation will work together towards their abandonment.

What is our way of proceeding? First of all, to inform, and thus participate in the training of the public and health professonials, but also to listen to the victims and provide them with help. It is our deep conviction that this is the only way to obtain the abandonment of these practices.Of course, it will take longer, but we are convinced that it will be much more effective in the long term than a simple ban.

The only way to achieve respect for the right to self-determination is through a public debate on the necessary conditions, which alone will ensure that consent is free and informed, i.e. without any coercion and with the necessary information about the act and its consequences.

Droit au corps is committed to a universalist approach to genital mutilation, because the world community must protect all children, whether they are girls, boys or intersex children.

That is why we are happy that an international alliance of Intactivist movements is created on this day, 7 May, which marks the 8th anniversary of the Cologne Trial.
