Initialism: Female Genital Cutting.
Sometimes used as a euphemism in discussions and papers in order to gloss over the fact that this is a violent, mutilating operation. However, there are also such "mild" forms of female genital cutting, which only involve scratching or incising the skin, that one can actually speak of cutting rather than mutilation here.
