§ 224 StGB reads (highlighting in the legal text by IntactiWiki):

Criminal Code (StGB)
§ 224 Dangerous bodily harm[1]

(1) Anyone who commits bodily harm

  1. by bringing poison or other harmful substances,
  2. by means of a weapon or another dangerous tool,
  3. by means of a deceitful assault,
  4. jointly with another person involved or
  5. by means of treatment that endangers life

is subject to imprisonment from six months to ten years, punished in less serious cases with imprisonment from three months to five years.

(2) The attempt is punishable.

Non-binding comment from IntactiWiki:

Dangerous bodily harm within the meaning of this paragraph is HGM, as at least one cutting tool ("dangerous tool") is always used.
