Joseph L. Lewis (1889 – 1968) was an American freethinker and atheist who came from a Jewish background, although he abandoned religion early in his life. In the 1920s he became the president of Freethinkers of America, an organization which he helped incorporate in 1925. He established a new publishing house, Freethought Press Association, which he used to publish and distrubte a wide variety of freethought literature.[1]

He was the author of the 1949 book "In the Name of Humanity: Speaking Out Against Circumcision".
