In the German-speaking region, the term "Circumcision Debate" (Beschneidungsdebatte) stands for the political and religious debate which started in early July 2012 after the circumcision judgment of the Cologne Regional Court from May 5, 2012 had been released to the public.

From today's perspective, the debate was fueled much by Jewish religious leaders who argued very early with anti-semitic accusations against circumcision critics. In addition, the German Federal Government targeted to finding a solution to "make Jewish and Muslim life still possible in Germany" as quickly as possible, which made a calm and objective debate almost impossible.
