On 5 May 2019, the French organization Droit au Corps made a public appeal to the French Government to launch a public debate on the conditions for consent to [circumcision]. Their concern is that "circumcision" should in principle only be lawful if there is a legally valid consent of the person concerned. In addition, debates will be held on how to ensure that consent is really effective.

This appeal is supported by many organizations and personalities. A constantly updated list can be found on the corresponding page at Droit au Corps.
