The expression "female circumcision" invokes imagery of African jungles, tribal people, and forceful restraining of girls to be cut by a traditional practitioner using a rusty razor or another non-sterile equipment. But is this always the case? Or is this image partially the result of careful propaganda by some organizations?

What is the difference between traditional female genital mutilation practices and cosmetic genital surgeries? Is female circumcision practiced in medical conditions anywhere? Is it still barbaric when performed by doctors?
