Jotamo José Come is member of the 2018 Guideline Development Group (GDG) of the WHO. The GDG's task is to develop updated recommendations on safe male circumcision for HIV prevention and related service delivery for adolescent boys and men in generalized HIV epidemics.[1]

Biography

The WHO published the following biography of Jotamo José Come:

Come, Jotamo José

  • Surgeon, Ministry of Health Mozambique
  • MD and Surgery (Universidade Eduardo Mondlane)

Dr Come has worked in the health care public facilities, Ministry of Health of Mozambique since 1992 to 2001 including in Gaza province as a clinical doctor from the primary care to the higher levels. I worked in surgical environment with limited resources doing several procedures including male circumcision. I work with communities and traditional leaders in various health community based activities to improve the public health. I completed my post-graduate training in surgery from 2001 to 2005 at Maputo Central Hospital then worked at Jose Macamo General Hospital as surgeon. Since 1992 I have been involved in training medical doctors in the Faculty of Medicine at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane especially during their medical practices in the clinic. I am currently a surgeon working also on breast cancer and thyroid diseases at the Central Hospital in Maputo. I have also been involved in training medical personnel in several health institutions, including the Higher Institute for Health Professionals (ISCISA), specifically in surgery, clinical laboratory and pathology.
