His book [[Unspeakable Mutilations]] is a product of his researches into the changing attitudes and treatment of male sexuality during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He is currently researching the [[New Zealand ]] history of the social and health issues related to the non-therapeutic [[circumcision]] of male minors, from ancient Polynesia to the present. He has also researched the New Zealand purity campaigns of Henry Bligh of the Australasian White Cross League (1902-1930).
