Lewis participated with his brother, [[Van, Lewis|Van]] in the first recorded American protest demonstration against non-therapeutic infant [[circumcision]], which occurred in Tallahassee on 17 December 1970 in front of [https://www.tmh.org/ Tallahassee Memorial Hospital].
The two brothers were arrested for disturbing the peace, although the charges were later dropped.
