This template is a homebrewn IntactiWiki template which replaces the more complex Wikipedia [[Template:cite journal]].

Common parameters

{{REFjournal
 |last=
 |init=
 |author-link=
 |last2=
 |init2=
 |author2-link=
 |url=
 |title=
 |journal=
 |date=
 |volume=
 |issue=
 |pages=
 |accessdate=
}}

Required parameters

  • <last>
  • <title>
  • <journal>

AMA style

If you want to use real AMA style, please use the initials parameters init and init<n>, not the first and first<n> parameters.

AMA formatting of journal references sometimes removes spaces between year, volume, issue, and pages information (esp. in printed books where these blanks may increase the number of text lines). On web pages, the blank helps for a better text wrapping and makes references more readable.

AMA journal references in books:

  • journal name (abbreviated). Year;volume(issue):page(s), often abbreviated to the minimum required.
  • Example: Wonderf J. 2019;42(7):123-4.

AMA journal references online:

  • journal name (abbreviated or not). Year; volume(issue): page(s).
  • Example: The Wonderful Journal. 2019; 42(7): 123-124.

Deprecated parameter

  • <coauthors> - use <last2>, etc., instead

Notes

  • The IntactiWiki uses this template also as a replacement of the template cite article used by the IntactWiki.
  • You can add up to 9 authors by using additional parameter fields from last3, first3, author3-link to last9, first9, author9-link. See below. If a reference has more than 9 authors, please note them likewise (last10, first10, last11, first11, etc.) although they aren't supported yet. Add the <etal> parameter (see next note) to indicate that there are more than 9 authors. This isn't done automatically yet. Chances are that this template may support more than 9 authors in the future.
  • There is an <etal> parameter which outputs ", et al." after the last listed author, if the value is set to yes.
  • The <archived> parameter outputs " (archive URL)" if the value is set to yes.

Examples

Note: The small icon in front of each reference also has a "REFjournal " mouseover text and helps template developers to more easily identify the template used in large articles. Chances are that they will be used permanently.
