<i>The aggressive promotion of circumcision by the circumcision industry in the United States for well over a century has resulted in the loss by much of the population of normal folk knowledge of a beneficial natural, normal, heathy, functional, and protective body part. This article is an attempt to partially restore basic folk knowledge.</i>
Foreskinned men sometimes ask, "do I have to retract my foreskin for urination?" They may have been heard myths that it is unhealthy to have urine inside the foreskin, however there is no factual basis for that claim. Urine has a healthy microbiome when it leaves the urethra and is helpful for flushing out the foreskin and keeping it clean. The presence of urine in the preputial sac is not unsanitary and does not do harm. Nature has planned for this conditionby lining the preputial sac with mucosa, instead of skin. Boys by necessity pee through their foreskin because the juvenile foreskin does not retract and men with phimosis also pee through their foreskin because the foreskin does not retract. Urine does no harm so it is not necessary to pull back when one pees. One foreskinned man posted:
<blockquote>
Well, I’ve got a little under 2 inches of foreskin overhang, and I just pee through it every time. I give it a quick tug to make sure it’s pointing in a straight line and then start peeing. When I’m done I pull my foreskin back to shake it off, and if I’m at a toilet sometimes I’ll wipe the tip of my foreskin if it’s still soaking wet.
