===Article twenty-four===
Article twenty-four has several paragraphs. Paragraph three is of special importance to male circumcision which is a traditional practice that dates back to before the advent of recorded history.
Paragraph three provides:

3. States Parties shall take all effective and appropriate measures with a view to abolishing traditional practices prejudicial to the health of children.
</blockquote>
We have long known that non-therapeutic circumcision of children sometimes results in [[death]]. Douglas Gairdner (1949) reported nineteen deaths a year in the United Kingdom.
