Dr. Leyla Sirad Hussein (Somali: Leyla Xuseen), OBE[a 1], (born 1980, Somalia), is a British psychotherapist in London and a multi-award winning campaigner on FGM and gender rights.
Hussein is a qualified counsellor at Post-Graduate level and has been working with vulnerable young people and women who have experienced sexual violence or any other harmful practice; such as female genital mutilation for the past 8 years. She works from a person-centred and existential orientation. She works within the BACP Ethical Framework and is a member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
She is the founder of the Dahlia Project which is a specialist service for women who have undergone female genital mutilation, run by her and the Manor Gardens Health Advocacy Service.
