Keinan Abdi Warsame, better known by his stage name K'naan[1], is a Somali-Canadian musician. He rose to prominence with the success of his single "Wavin' Flag", which was chosen as Coca-Cola's promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Besides hip hop, K'naan's sound is influenced by elements of Somali music and world music. He is also involved in various philanthropic initiatives.
K'naan appeared at the first Hope Rising concert, which was put on in May 2011 at Toronto's Sony Centre for the Performing Arts by the Stephen Lewis Foundation.[2] Other celebrities who have participated in the concert include Alicia Keys, Angélique Kidjo, Rufus Wainwright and Holly Cole.[3] Artists who appeared in the 2012 concert in Toronto, November 7th, 2012 included Annie Lennox, Angélique Kidjo and Sarah McLachlan.[4]
