===Male circumcision===
The WHO has maintained a difficult, erroneous, and unsatisfactory position on male circumcision (MC) to prevent female to male [[HIV]] infection at least since 2007. ''The Lancet'' published reports of two African RCTs in February 2007 and the WHO immediately convened a conference at Montreux, Switzerland on 6–8 March 2007 to consider the reports. In a rush to judgment, the meeting prepared detailed recommendations for the adoption of male circumcision as prophylaxis against HIV infection. The WHO has promoted male circumcision, mainly in Africa for 14 years, during which time tens of millions of African males have suffered circumcision, a form of [[MGM| male genital mutilation]].
This circumcision policy originated before Tedros became Director-General, however he has now had nearly five years to reform it, but has ''not'' done so. It may be because of the very large contributions from the [[Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation]] and the fear of offending [[Bill Gates]], which are both advocates of [[circumcision]].
It may also be due to the influence of [[David R. Tomlinson]] who has invented several circumcision devices, including the [[AccuCirc]], which he merchandises. Tomlinson is the WHO adviser on circumcision, so he is unlikely to recommend against circumcision due to his apparent conflict-of interest.
The [[bias]] toward male circumcision may also come from the [[World_Health_Organization#Guideline_Development_Group_.28GDG.29| Guideline Development Group]], which is a large committee charged with the task of recommending "new guidelines on male circumcision". A survey of the committee revealed that it is overwhelmingly peopled with circumcision-biased individuals.
Large population-based surveys show that male circumcision has little or no effect on preventing HIV infection:

(2021) carried out a massive empirical study of the male population of the province of Ontario, [[Canada]] (569,950 males), of whom 203,588 (35.7%) were circumcised between 1991 and 2017. # [[Morten Frisch]] and Jacob Simonsen (2021) carried out a large scale empirical population study in [[Denmark]] of 855,654 males regarding the alleged value of male circumcision in preventing [[HIV]] and other sexually transmitted infections in men. They found that circumcised men have a higher rate of STI and [[HIV]] infection overall than [[intact]] men.<ref name="frisch2021">{{FrischM SimonsenJ 2021}}</ref>
Whatever the influences may be, Tedros has done nothing in his nearly five-years in office to reform the mess that he inherited when he took office, so the genital mutilation ([[MGM]]) of boys and men by [[Adolescent and adult circumcision| circumcision]] continues.
