Contents
Early life
Vivek Ganapathy Ramaswamy was born to Tamil speaking Indian Hindu immigrant parents. His father is a patent attorney for General Electric and his mother is a geriatric psychiatrist.
He attended the Hindu temple in Dayton, Ohio.
He has one brother. Male circumcision is not part of the culture of Hindus or India generally, so it is very likely that Ramaswamy and his brother avoided circumcision and are foreskinned men with an intact penis.
Education
Ramaswamy attended a Catholic high school near Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was the valedictorian at his graduation in 1983.[2]
He graduated from Harvard University summa cum laude with a B.A. in Biology in 2007.[2]
He later attended Yale Law School where he graduated in 2013 with a law degree.[2]
Business career
Ramaswamy started Roivant Sciences in 2014. Roivant reportedly purchases the rights to new but undeveloped drugs and brings them to market.[3] Ramaswamy reportedly has been very successful and is reputed to have a net work of about $1 billion.
Political actions
Ramaswamy generally has taken conservative political positions. He stood for the nomination for the Presidency of the United States by the Republican Party but he did not do well. He suspended his campaign after the Iowa caucus in January 2024 and endorsed Donald J. Trump.[4]
Appointment to DOGE
President-elect Donald J. Trump has appointed Vivek Ramaswamy and Elan Musk to co-head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The appointment is expected to expire on 4 July 2026.[5]
Personal life
Ramaswamy married Apoorva Tewar, who is a laryngologist and surgeon, in 2015. They have two sons.
Ramaswamy professes to be a monotheistic Hindu. He is also a vegetarian.
The Ramaswamy family is reported to live in Upper Arlington, Ohio.[6]
