Northside Hospital is a large general hospital located north of Atlanta in Fulton County, Georgia, USA, that offers maternity services.[1]

Northside Hospital has been the scene of several circumcision disasters.

Circumcision gone wrong

In an occurrence reminiscent of the horror of the tragedy of David Reimer, the medical staff of Northside Hospital used an unsuitable electrosurgical cautery to circumcise two boys in August 1985.[2]

The condition of the first boy, who is identified as "Antonio" was described as:

The child, who is not 5 years old, had his penis severely burned in a mishap in August 1985. His attorneys said he will never be able to function sexually as a normal male and will require extensive reconstructive surgery and psychological counseling as well as lifelong urological care and treatment by infectious disease specialists.[2]

The second boy, who is identified as "Baby Doe", has been described as "sterile and completely incapable of reproduction". He has received a sex change operation and will be reared as a female,[2] although that treatment failed in the case of David Reimer.[3] His case has been settled out of court.[2]

The surgeon who performed these mutilating surgeries has never been publically identifed.
