According to newer definitions, an '''initialism''' is not a real [[:Category:Acronym|acronym]] because all letters are pronounced separately.

Fowler's Dictionary of Modern English Usage states: "In everyday use, ''acronym'' is often applied to abbreviations that are technically '''initialisms''', since they are pronounced as separate letters."<ref name="Fowler2015">{{REFbook
