In 1836, Lallemand [[circumcised ]] a patient to cure him from nocturnal seminal emissions (i.e. wet dreams). So he recommended [[circumcision]] as a treatment for ''spermatorrhea '' (excessive, involuntary ejaculation), which was then believed to be a disease.
