Rathmann had a varied medical background. After completing internships and residency training at U.S. Marine hospitals in Chicago, Seattle and Fort Stanton, {{USSC|NM}}, he owned and operated a hospital in Carazozo, {{USSC|NM}}, for three years. Since 1938, however, he has been in general practice in Inglewood, {{USSC|CA}}. A member of the senior surgical staff of [https://www.centinelamed.com/ Centinela Hospital], Inglewood, Dr. Rathmann was also on the staff of five other hospitals in the southern Los Angeles area.
