Dr. Hiram Samuel Yellen, M.D.[a 1], (25 January 1894 in Raczki, Suwalki, Biyalstok, Poland – 2 September 1969 in Buffalo, Erie County, NY, USA)[1][2] was obstetrician, inventor, colonel in the US Army[3], assistant medical examiner in the Buffalo Dept. of Health, Physician.[2]
Curriculum vitae
Yellen attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where he received a MBChB[a 2] in 1915. He also attended the University at Buffalo where he received an M.D.[a 1]
He invented the Yellen Clamp, used in circumcision.
In 1934, Aaron Goldstein and Hiram S. Yellen invented and mass marketed the Gomco clamp which makes it easier for doctors to cut off even more skin than in traditional circumcisions. He invented it on the basis of his experience of using a Ford motor tyre lever.[2]
