A '''frenectomy''' is the excision of the [[frenulum]], a small ligament of tissue that prevents the [[foreskin]] from retracting too far. Frenectomy is occasionally used in cases of [[frenulum breve]] to permit more complete retraction of the foreskin.  Excision of the frenulum will also excise the [[frenular artery]] that supplies arterial blood to the [[glans penis]].
