Ghebreyesus was born in Ethiopia in 1965. In 1986, Tedros he received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the [https://www.alluniversity.info/eritrea/university-of-asmara/ University of Asmara]. In 1986, after his first degree, Tedros he joined the [https://www.ethiopia.gov.et/ministries/ministry-of-health/ Ethiopian Ministry of Health ] as a junior public health expert.
He studied at the [https://www.lshtm.ac.uk/ London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine ] and was awarded a Master of Science degree in immunology of infectious diseases from the [https://london.ac.uk/ University of London ] in 1992 .
