== Cole's injuries ==
Cole was in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU) at the time that the hospital solicited a consent for circumcision. If a circumcision is to be performed, the infant boy should be "stable and healthy". A boy in intensive care may not be stable and healthy. Bollinger (2025) has questioned the safety of the practice of circumcising boys in the NICU.<ref>{{REFdocument

Cole's loss of blood caused by his unnecessary [[circumcision]] caused substantial organ injury. Part of his intestines died and had to be removed by an abdominal operation. He has been fitted with a colostomy bag.<ref name="degregory2025"/>
