Psychologist [[Ronald Goldman]], (1997) devoted Chapter Seven (pages 139-175) to "the impact of circumcision upon American society" in his landmark book, <i>[[Circumcision:_The_Hidden_Trauma| Circumcision, the Hidden Trauma]].</i>
Goldman has pointed to the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (secondary to circumcision), low male self esteem, and avoidance of intimacy in male-female relationships.
Under anti-social behavior, Goldman lists adult male violence, domestic violence, rape, child sexual abuse, and suicide.
Goldman notes that the effects of [[circumcision]] makes nations more likely to make war. We can look at the Middle East, where war seems to be perpetual, and almost all males are [[circumcised]] due to the demands of [[Judaism]] and [[Islam]].

The continued [[United_States_of_America#Prevalence_of_circumcision| high prevalence of circumcision in America]] has a huge adverse impact on American society. Cessation of circumcision of boys would gradually cause the prevalence of [[circumcised]] males to diminish. Eventually one would expect to see substantial betterment of American society, with a substantial decline in violence of all types.
