"ARC - Attorneys for the Rights of the Child" (California, USA) is an international network of attorneys and supporters which now addresses the multi-faceted issue of genital mutilation of children, particularly the practice of male circumcision. ARC is a non-profit organization founded to secure equal protection for, and broaden judicial and public recognition of, children’s legal and human rights to bodily integrity and self-determination.

Wiesenthal Center slams ARC

In 2020 the Simon Wiesenthal Center questioned the ARC's efforts from 2019, when the ARC convened the “Brussels Collaboration on Body Integrity," where Female Genital Mutation (FGM) was equated with Jewish "Brit Mila". The ARC had alleged that "cutting any person’s genitals without their informed consent is a serious violation of their right to bodily integrity. As such, it is morally impermissible…" Wiesenthal Center Director for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, construed that speaking for children's rights could be "construed as an assault on the Jewish people".[1]

IntactiWiki comment

The claim that genital mutilation of minors should be allowed, is just untenable because there is no human right which allows to damage the genitals of a newborn without any medical indication. Although every intactivists and of course all attorneys from ARC respect any Jewish persons and their history (as well as they respect any person), it is about time to accept for any religious community that children are humans on their own with the same human rights that adults claim for themselves. Genital mutilation of minors is no human right and of course not covered by the human right of religious freedom.
